In the beer world Elmhurst is probably best known as home of the Pavichevich Brewing Company that produced the original Baderbrau. Michael Jackson referred to theirs as “the finest pilsner in America”. It was the only beer served at the German Consulate of Chicago and Oprah kept it stocked at her restaurant. Nowadays in Downtown Elmhurst Chef Evan Sumrell and his rustic flare are creating the perfect special occasion landscape at One Fifty One Kitchen Bar.
In the past Evan spent time at South Loop’s Acadia, a Michelin Guide restaurant where the discipline of contemporary American fine dining became his priority. Located across the street Classic Cinema’s York Theatre, One Fifty One recently previewed their Spring menu, a whimsical five-course ride with an optional wine flight pairing. Some spaces are suburban, others happen to be in the suburbs. One Fifty One is the latter. The spotlight here is on locally sourced ingredients and an atmosphere that focuses on embracing a relaxed and convivial vibe.
There are different dining rooms and a bar that offer versatility in this space that can accommodate 150 guests. Cooking classes, chef tasting dinners and wine pairing Dinners often appear on the events schedule.
This is the second project from the team behind the wildly popular Pints located half a mile away. Where Pints is a focused beer garden with a retractable roof, 151 is reflects a Midwestern tone that is both comfortable and intimate.
The bar menu is home 36 wines, 28 cocktails, 11 draft beers and 8 cider options. Enjoy food that nourishes the body and recharges the spirit at 151 North York Street in Elmhurst. Conveniently located just steps from the Elmhurst stop on Metra’s Union Pacific West Line.
